(spillover from the main blog)

I recently started working on a book that helps me stay consistently creative. In this process I have found so much goodness, so much to keep up with. I am now constantly seeking out projects that bring happiness and encouragement. I feel that once I am strong and passionate, I can reach out to others in a more sincere and giving way.

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about taking chances, and how it’s really just about overcoming your fears. Because the truth is, every time you take a big risk in your life, no matter how it ends up, you’re always glad you took it. Zach Braff, Scrubs
Guard well within yourself that treasure, kindness. Know how to give without hesitation, how to lose without regret, how to acquire without meanness. George Sand
Sometimes all that saves me is being willing to make mistakes. There are projects that strike me as so beautiful, important, complicated or just plain big, that they convince me of my own inadequacy. This awful state of reverence leads to paralyzing brain freeze. Times like that the only way out is for me to decide, ‘To hell with it. I can’t do it right, so I’ll do it wrong. I can’t do it well, but I can do it badly.’ Sometimes, with luck, while I’m sweating to do it wrong, I stumble on a right way. Katherine Dunn, author of Geek Love
The unreal is more powerful than the real. Because nothing is as perfect as you can imagine it. Because its only intangible ideas, concepts, beliefs, fantasies that last. Stone crumbles. Wood rots. People, well, they die. But things as fragile as a thought, a dream, a legend, they can go on and on. If you can change the way people think. The way they see themselves. The way they see the world. You can change the way people live their lives. That’s the only lasting thing you can create. Chuck Palahniuk, Choke
At 24? I was a real mess then. If I was to write a letter to that person, I’d say ‘Just relax! Relax and trust that the universe is taking care of you— even though you can’t tell— and everything is going to be fine.’ I remember some dark nights of the soul from my twenties when I thought, ‘I cannot go on.’ And I can’t fathom having that thought now.
